Tyler Campbell

Tyler is an active performer in the Greater NYC area in the realms of classical, jazz, theater and field percussion. He has had the privilege to play for multiple productions in the Nutmeg Summer Series at the Connecticut Repertory Theatre, along with productions at Castle Craig Players, Playhouse on Park, and Opera House Players of Enfield, CT. Stepping into the New York scene, Tyler frequently plays with the Chelsea Symphony in Manhattan. As percussionist, guitarist and vocalist, he has taken the stage with bands at many of Manhattan’s highlight venues, including Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End and Mercury Lounge. As a big band drummer, Tyler has played with Hartford area groups such as the Rob Zappulla Big Band and Mike Palin’s Other Orchestra.

A passionate educator, Tyler has taught percussion at many schools across the state of CT. He currently serves as percussion caption head to Newtown Highschool, 3-time consecutive recipients of best percussion award at USBands National Championships. He has also worked with WGI Medalist Trumbull High School, as well as The Woodstock Academy and the University of Connecticut. Since returning to the UConn in 2014 as a battery instructor, Tyler is now the head instructor for the battery, where he arranges and coordinates music and visual design alongside Professor Ricardo Brown and Mr. Evan Glickman. Tyler also returned to 7th Regiment as a battery instructor for the 2018 season. Through his teaching, Tyler enjoys finding and exploiting the relationships between different styles and approaches to percussion. With respect to any student’s desired focus, he aims to foster a learning environment that encourages curiosity and versatility for the musician as well as the person. Tyler is a member of the Vic Firth Education Team and a proud endorser of Vic Firth products.
