Kathleen Cooper
Having returned to southeastern Connecticut in 2020 (what a year to move!) after living overseas and in Washington DC, Kathleen is delighted to resume teaching at Thames Valley Music School.
Kathleen completed her Bachelor of Arts in Music, at Connecticut College (Organ), and her Master of Music in Church Music at Shenandoah Conservatory (Organ and Choral Conducting).
She is currently serving as a substitute church musician in Southeastern CT and enjoys visiting various denominations. In addition to her professional experience as a church musician and piano teacher in the Washington, DC metro area, she was a sight-singing teacher for young choristers, and a conductor and organist for a parish orchestra.
Her personal interests – writing sacred and secular poetry, sculptural welding and knitting with wire, and music composition – along with a bit of running and yoga – provide creative outlet, inspiration and balance. She posts samples of her poetry and sculpture at “watch the puddle” (https://kccoo.blog).
All of this together has given her a keen desire to help students discover their own creative expression. Appropriate to the student’s level and goals, she includes music reading & interpretation, historical appreciation, and beginning steps in composing & improvisation in her approach to teaching.
